EEHL Tryouts

The East Empire Hockey League is excited to announce that it will be hosting tryouts for aspiring players looking to join the league for the upcoming summer season on June 1st. This event promises to be an excellent opportunity for players of various skill levels to demonstrate their abilities and passion for the game. Coaches from the league will be present to oversee the tryouts, which will consist of a series of skill drills designed to assess players' technical abilities, as well as a competitive scrimmage that will allow participants to showcase their on-ice performance in a game-like setting.

Evaluation Criteria

During the tryouts, coaches will meticulously evaluate several critical aspects of each player's performance. The evaluation criteria include, in this order:

  • Attitudes: A positive attitude is essential in a team sport like hockey. Coaches will observe players' demeanor during drills and scrimmages, focusing on their sportsmanship, resilience in the face of challenges, and respect for teammates and opponents alike.

  • Leadership Skills: Even at the tryout stage, coaches will be looking for players who exhibit leadership qualities. This includes the ability to communicate effectively with teammates, inspire others through their actions, and take initiative on the ice.

  • Work Ethic: Hard work and dedication are crucial for success in hockey. Coaches will assess players' commitment to giving their best effort during drills and games, including their willingness to push through fatigue and continuously improve their skills.

  • Hockey IQ: Understanding the game is vital for any athlete. Coaches will evaluate players' decision-making abilities, awareness of positioning, and tactical understanding of plays, which are essential for effective teamwork and strategy execution.

  • Ability: This encompasses a player's overall skill level, including skating, shooting, passing, and defensive capabilities. Coaches will look for technical proficiency and the ability to execute plays effectively under pressure.

This thorough evaluation process is designed to identify not only the most skilled players but also those who possess the right mindset and character to contribute positively to the team environment. The feedback gathered during these tryouts will play a significant role in shaping the rosters for the upcoming league draft, making it a pivotal moment for all participants.
